Calm and stayed cool but perfect for running by 10 am.

 

 

 Men must catch women to win overall purse. Women get a starting handicap using the course record difference between men & women. First person finishing of the opposite sex gets the second prize purse.

1996  First Marathon ran from Fanny Bridge in Tahoe City to Emerald Motel at SLT city limits. no expo, pick up at Camp Rich Marina

1967   Ran from Fanny Bridge to far end of Pope Beach. Expo at Embassy Suites
1998  Ran Cobblestone Mall in Tahoe City to Pope Beach. Expo at Lakeside Inn
1999 Ran from Cobblestone Mall to Pope Beach. Expo at Lakeside Inn

1999 women had 30 minute
head start  with a$500 total purse for first place only.

2000 women had 28 minute head start  with a $1000 for first and $500 for first place of opposite sex.

2001 women have 27minute head start with a $1000 for first and $500 for first place of opposite sex.

2001 record number of no shows because of September 11.

2002 Ran from Tahoe City Golf Course to Pope Beach. Expo at Embassy Suites

2003 Ran from Tahoe City Golf Course to Baldwin Beach. Expo at Embassy Suites

2003 men and women started together at 9:30

2003 First time event run on Saturday

2003 First 3-day Triathlon Kayak or Swim/ Bike 72/ 10K or Half Marathon or Marathon

2004 Added 35 mile Bike race from Tahoe City

2004 Elite women only receive 27 minute head start.
2004 Back to Commons Beach to Pope Beach regular course. Expo at the Embassy Suites

2005 changed marathon walk event to Tahoe 20 mile walk-run

2006 First year for Tahoe Super Triple and 72 Mile ultra around the lake

2007 Snowed from Midnight until 2 AM before race. 72 Mile Ultra started at midnight with snow flurries.
Rebecca Eckland wins women overall running her first marathon. Amy Jenkinson won the cash because she entered into and won the elite field.

2008 Kristi Arthur won the man vs woman challenge with a 30 minute head start. 72 mile bike record broken

 

           

 

There was an earlier lake Tahoe Marathon which was run for 7 or 8 years in the late 70's and early 80's. It was run from Incline Village up Spooner Summit and back. We are looking for documentation of results, old race brochures, t-shirts, etc..  If you have any information please email us. or call 530-544-7095
