Two month until Marathon Sunday......September 28th

Tahoe Summers are the best. Temperatures in the 80's with no humidity. Bears, rabbits, quail, coyotes, geese, butterflies, mountain meadows in bloom, ....and they will still be here in September plus the beginning of fall colors and cooler running temperatures. For those who have not registered yet I hope you will soon.

I also wanted to remind you that Tahoe is very walker friendly with a 7.5 hour marathon time limit. Bring your camera and IPod, walk the hills, take some photos and listen to your music if your wish.

 

What's new for 2008?

  1. Marathon Events are on Sunday. changed  from Saturday   

  2. Swim events will proceed Kayak events and will be on Friday instead of Thursday at Lakeside Beach at Stateline.

  3. Cycle Events will be on Saturday instead of Friday.

  4. A one day only  Expo on Saturday at the Horizon Casino Resort

  5. Speed Golf will be on Thursday instead of Wednesday still at Tahoe Paradise Golf Course.

  6. Awards will be on the beach right after the races

  7. Optimist Kids Fun Runs will be Saturday afternoon

  8. The Re/Max 5K will be Sunday morning same day as the Marathon events

  9. New Corporate Marathon Relay Challenge. (5 & 2 Person mixed teams with a $1000 purse to go to winners charity)

  10. The last early bird registration discount ends this  Thursday night.

  11. We have also added a 20% discount for any youth 17 and under for any of our other races they might like to enter.

 
 

For Speed Golf, our key note speaker at our Expo and event will be Dick Beardsley . He is an avid golfer and will be present to try his hand at Speed Golf on Thursday at Tahoe Paradise. Speed Golf is running the course and playing with a maximum of 3 clubs. Your golf score is added to your finish time and then we pass out some fun awards.   It should be a treat with Dick joining us.

Things mentioned in our last newsletters but worth repeating:

  1. The Lake Tahoe Marathon has changed back to Sunday and is September 28th

  2. The Expo is now Saturday only but still at the Horizon Casino Resort

  3. The Triple Marathon will be Friday, Saturday, and Sunday

  4. The 72 Mile Ultra will start at midnight on Saturday night

  5. The Great 72 Mile Tahoe Bike Race is now on Saturday, along with the 35 & 20 milers

  6. The Swim and Kayak venues have changed to Lakeside Beach at Stateline on Friday Sept 26 with the swim at 9 a.m. and the Kayak at 10 a.m.

  7. There are 6 competitive divisions for the 3 Day Triathlon, still having the a la carte options

  8. The Military discount is 30% off the existing early bird discount

  9. The 5K will be run the same day as the Marathon events and start and finish at Pope Beach

  10. Something new this year is the $1000 purse for the first 5 person marathon relay team that finishes. The $1000 purse will be sent to the charity of the winning teams choice.

  11. Our Optimist Kids Fun Runs are Free to all kids 1 to 12 years old. The kids will run Saturday afternoon at the Marathon finish line at Pope Beach. Register them early and they will have their name printed on their race bib just like mom and dad. They also get a finishers medal, hot dog and drink, thanks to the Optimist Club of South Lake Tahoe.

 The Maui 15K and 5K

Maui Oceanfront Marathon

 The Maui 15K & 5K is January 18, 2009.  The Maui 15K runs downhill between Napili Park and Kamehameha Iki Park at the south end of Old Lahaina Town. The races will be  Sunday, January 18th; both runs are very scenic with traditional Hawaiian music at the finish. Great finisher’s medals are awarded for the 15K and 5K; there will be 5 year age division awards and a $500 purse for the overall 15K winners.  Please read about the Maui 15K & 5K at http://www.Maui15k.com
