Lake Tahoe Marathon Parking   & Shuttle Buses

Plan on spending a running vacation at Lake Tahoe during Race Week

as of September 17, 2012

Parking for the Lake Tahoe Marathon Events

Ideally you would like to have a spouse or friend drop you off at the start line. That way you don’t have to get up so darn early.

The road north from South Lake Tahoe will be closed at 7AM at the 23-mile mark, which on a map is close to Spring Creek Road. The 5K Race starts 200 yards south of here. Traffic is open south bound from Tahoe City except for the race start between 6:50 Am and 7:15 AM.

Friday's Events

Sunday’s Shorter Races

The 5K, 10K, Half Marathon, and 20 Miler:

Use the free Parking at the “Y”, which is the intersection of H50 & H28, in the TJ Maxx marking lot. Or park behind the post office, which is across the street, or on the side streets nearby. This area is two miles from the finish line. Post race shuttle bus will bring you back from the finish line from the front of Pope Beach. Don’t park in front of someone business.

Can also park at The Eagles Nest Campground across the street from the Pope Beach Finish line. Parking there is $10. Shuttle Bus pick-up point is at the front entrance of Pope Beach.

 The Sunday Marathon

Park your car for free at one of the Casino parking lots. Catch your shuttle bus at the STC. The Marathon only buses go around the east side of Lake Tahoe and do not travel up the racecourse before the race.

The Half Marathon is the only race with two major loading points.

  1.  The STC or the Y.

  2.  See above for the STC.

The other pick up location is at the “Y”, which is the intersection of H50 & H28, in the TJ Maxx parking lot or across the street behind the Tahoe Valley Post Office, or park on the side streets nearby. This area is two miles from the finish line. Post race shuttle bus will bring you back from the finish line from the front of Pope Beach.

You can also pay $10 to park at The Eagles Nest Campground across the street from the Pope Beach Finish line. The Shuttle Bus pick up point is at the front entrance of Pope Beach. The Marathon buses do not pick up here.

Because of environmental concerns and Forest Service restrictions there is very limited parking around the finish area near Pope Beach.

See the Shuttle Bus schedules on the back of your race number  or here.

As a condition to our use permit, the Forest Service requires the Marathon and other special events to cordon off and post no parking signs along Hwy 89. The CHP will ticket violators. Please take the free shuttles or use pay parking at the approved Camp Richardson Campgrounds.

Dogs are not allowed into the Pope Beach Finish area, nor are they allowed on the race course.

Please do not park on any vegetation at any time.
