Lake Tahoe Marathon Parking   & Shuttle Buses

Plan on spending a running vacation at Lake Tahoe during Race Week

as of September 16, 2011

It is important that you use our free shuttle bus service that leaves from the Horizon Casino Resort.

Because of environmental concerns and Forest Service restrictions there is very limited parking around the finish area near Pope Beach.

For ease and quickness, use the free parking at the Horizon Casino Resort or other casino properties and pick up the shuttle buses at the Horizon Casino Resort  on the west side of the Horizon Casino Resort nearest Harvey's Parking Garage. See the Shuttle Bus schedules on the back of your race number  or here.

Marathon  buses will leave the Horizon Casino Resort and travel around the east side of the lake to the start lines in Tahoe City and Homewood.

5K, 10K, Half Marathon and 20 Mile Walk  buses will travel through South Lake Tahoe to the start lines at Spring Creek, Emerald Bay, Rubicon. and Homewood. If you have your race bib you may also board buses at old Millers Outpost parking lot Sunday morning. Note: Marathon buses to Tahoe City do not stop here.

If you use paid parking at Camp Richardson Camp Ground you can catch a shuttle bus from in front of Camp Richardson Lodge. See times on the back of your race bib. You should pre-purchase a parking ticket at the expo for peace of mind. Note: Marathon buses to Tahoe City do not stop here.

Marathon buses will drop off runners across the street from the stairs down to Commons Beach in Tahoe City.  Some of the buses will remain and become Spectator Buses and some will refill with  10k and half marathoners from Tahoe City and drop them off at Rubicon and Emerald Bay for their starts.

There is  pay  parking for about 300 cars  at Camp Richardson campground . The back end of the Campground is located across from the  entrance to Pope Beach which is the finish area. This a great way to be close to the finish line and especially nice for your non running family and friends who can wait on the beach with a lawn chair and picnic basket.  Parking is $10 and the fees help support  the Marathon Youth Charities.

There is free at the old Millers Outpost Parking lot at the intersection of Hwy 50 and Hwy 89, but park away from the businesses.

Also free parking is available behind the Tahoe Valley Post Office.  Shuttle buses will then pick you up at the regular bus stop at Miller's Outpost on Hwy 89 facing north towards Emerald Bay, Camp Richardson and Pope Beach. Spectators will be dropped off at the entrance to the Pope Beach finish line.

As a condition to our use permit, the Forest Service requires the Marathon and other special events to cordon off and post no parking signs along Hwy 89. The CHP will ticket violators. Please take the free shuttles or use pay parking at the approved Camp Richardson Campgrounds.

Dogs are not allowed into the Pope Beach Finish area, nor are they allowed on the race course.

Please do not park on any vegetation at any time.
