The Role of Public Adjusters in Urban Fire Recovery
I’ve heard about public adjusters before, but honestly I never really understood what they actually do. After the fire in our apartment building last fall, a few neighbors mentioned they hired a public adjuster to deal with the insurance claim, but I was skeptical. Is it really worth bringing one in, or can most people just handle the insurance process themselves? I’ve heard mixed things—some say it’s a waste of money, others say you get a much better settlement, especially in a place as complicated as New York. I found fire damage claims adjuster , but I’m curious if anyone here has used a public adjuster and what the experience was like.

I had that same question before we went through a fire. At first, I thought I could handle everything with the insurance company on my own, but it turned into a paperwork nightmare and I almost missed out on coverage for a bunch of repairs. The public adjuster really fought for us and knew all the ins and outs of New York’s rules. I’d definitely recommend it if you’re dealing with a big loss—it just takes a lot of the pressure off.
