were there hidden downsides no one really talks about

I've been researching overwater villas in the Maldives, and I keep wondering—are they really worth the price? I mean, I get that the views are incredible, and the experience is unique, but is it that much better than a beachfront villa? Is it just about the Instagram factor, or do you actually get something truly special for the extra cash? I'd love to hear from people who have stayed in one—was it everything you expected? Or were there hidden downsides no one really talks about?

I had the same doubts before I finally booked one for my honeymoon last year. Let me tell you, staying in an overwater villa is a completely different experience compared to a beachfront villa. Yes, it's pricey, but you're paying for the complete privacy, direct lagoon access, and the sheer tranquility of being surrounded by water. Waking up to the sound of gentle waves and stepping straight into the ocean from your deck is something you just can't replicate with a beachfront stay.

One thing to consider is the location of the villa within the resort. Some overwater villas can be quite far from the main island, which means long walks or waiting for a buggy service. Also, while the ocean breeze is refreshing, it can get quite windy at night, and some villas might have more exposure to the elements than others. But if you're looking for the best resorts for couples in Maldives

In short, if you're after a once-in-a-lifetime experience and don’t mind the splurge, I'd say go for it. But if you're someone who likes quick access to the beach and main resort activities, a beachfront villa might be a better option.
