Depending on where you're coming from, Lake Tahoe is easily accessible by plane, car and shuttle.

By Air

Reno/Tahoe International Airport (RNO)

  • Closest airport to South Lake Tahoe - 58 miles

Sacramento International (SMF)

  • About 110 miles

San Francisco International (SFO)

  • About 190 miles

Oakland (OAK)

  • 180 miles away

 

For the best fare, reserve and buy your tickets early as the cheap seats on each flight go early. Prices go up inside of 14 days and severely up inside of 7 days. The lowest fares are usually if you fly on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Red eye flights (after 9 p.m.) and early morning flights are cheaper. Air fare sales are usually after each major holiday, so check for deals after Memorial Day and the 4th of July.

 

Shuttle

South Tahoe Airporter offers a shuttle between the Reno/Tahoe Airport and South Lake Tahoe for about $48 round trip. 

 

For Shuttle Service to North Lake Tahoe including the start line are of Tahoe City, call the No Stress Express at (800) 426-5644. It's about 45 minutes to Tahoe City from Reno by private car.

By Road

Access South Lake Tahoe via Hwy. 50 or Hwy. 89, and North Lake Tahoe via I-80 or Hwy. 89. Lake Tahoe is approximately 2 hours East of Sacramento, 4 hours East of San Francisco, and 45-75 minutes West/Southwest of Reno, depending which side of the Lake you are driving to.

By Rental Car

Getting Around Lake Tahoe

 

Depending on where you're staying, it is usually quite easily to get around Lake Tahoe.

Marathon Shuttles

Shuttle buses load next to the Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel at the Stateline Transportation Center (STC). You must reserve your seat at the Expo or go standby if space is available.

 

Post-Race Buses

Homewood to Lakeside Beach   - $12 charter Buses will leave starting at 12 PM 

 

Spectators  

Park at free casino parking and walk to finish line (1/4-1/2 mile walk), or find a comfortable spot along the route. Be aware the racecourse will be closed to northbound traffic at Spring Creek Rd. (5 miles north of SLT city limits) at 7 a.m. Dogs are not allowed on the racecourse.

South Shore Bus

For South Lake Tahoe city buses, check out the Tahoe Transportation District (TTD). BlueGO (TTD) buses offer door-to-door service anytime in South Lake Tahoe by calling (530) 541-7149. Regular bus route service is $2 one way-and an All Day pass is only $3.

North Shore Bus

For South Lake Tahoe city buses, check out the Truckee/North Tahoe Transportation Management Association. Times and prices vary so be sure to do your research in advance.

Need a great way to go between the West and South Lake, while enjoying the incredible views? Try hopping aboard the Nifty 50 Trolley! The trolley is convenient and quick making it one of the best forms of public transportation in Lake Tahoe.
