Addiction triggers

Working as a paramedic and dealing with overdose calls almost daily. It's heartbreaking but also triggering for me since I'm in recovery myself. Sometimes I get home from a particularly bad call and all I want to do is numb out the images in my head. My supervisor doesn't know about my history and I want to keep it that way. Been trying to understand why certain situations affect me more than others and found helpful information at https://unitedrecoveryproject.com/rehab-blog/understanding-addiction-triggers/ about occupational triggers and secondary trauma. Learning that being around addiction-related situations can be a real trigger even when you're trying to help
